Our Story - Why we’re building Chaptr

Every family has a moment when they realise how much has already been lost. For us, it was understanding that with all of today's technology, we're still losing the voices and wisdom that matter most.

The problem isn't technical, it's human. Recording the essence of what makes families unique feels impossible. Organising that content seems overwhelming, and finding the right moment never gets prioritised. Meanwhile, the people who hold our family's lived experience are getting older and their stories are disappearing with them.

We're building Chaptr because we believe technology can make preserving what matters most effortless, not complicated. Every family personality, story, memory and moment can exist as part of a living archive that future generations can search, discover, and learn from.

Our Team

  • Jim Edmondson

    Founder & CEO

    An experienced investor and entrepreneur who specialises in helping innovative technology companies develop commercial strategies for fast, sustainable growth. Jim previously served as CEO of an Engineering Tech group, where he raised over £50m and achieved a successful exit. He holds a Masters in Strategy & Innovation from Oxford University, where he now assesses the MBA & EMBA entrepreneur programs.

  • Jay Abbott

    Co-Founder & CTO

    An experienced software engineer and technical leader with three decades of expertise in scalable product development. Jay founded one of the UK's first mobile games studios before transitioning to technical consulting. His expertise has driven successful product launches including an international car-insurance telemetry product with 3m+ customers and a mobile e-commerce app generating $2bn+ revenue.

  • Pete Reading

    Co-Founder & CPO

    Pete has a degree in Aerospace Engineering and is a qualified ski instructor. He recently climbed Kilimanjaro and helped raise £50k for charity. When he's not breathing sweet mountain air, he's helping startups prove product market fit. Pete leads the Product function for Chaptr. It's Pete's job to make sure our customers encounter surprise and delight each time they use our app.
